Obligatory Introduction Post

Updated: Sep 22

There are a millennia of things I would rather be writing about than this obligatory intro post, but protocol is protocol, no? So I will get this out of the way and try not to let my sheer lack of interest stop me from making it as interesting as possible:

So, hiiiii! My name Jessamine and I am first and foremost a writer. (It took me literally 96.6% of my life to call myself this without feeling like a complete fraud.) I am a Londoner per postcode, Canadian on my passport, Hong Konger by ancestry but above all muy española in heart, soul, mind, body and spirit. My passport actually says Barcelona on it because: tl;dr, I got robbed.

On the meaning of my blog name, the literal translation of “pero bueno” as “but, okay” is just one example of how foreign languages are bludgeoned by their English translations. Pero bueno, the best way I can translate it is: “oh well”. This is actually the name of one of my first poems; the meaning there is that pero bueno is the only way we can survive and move on from the grand fuckery of the universe (read: life). I heard this phrase a lot whilst on exchange in Argentina so it does have a special meaning to me.

Córdoba, Argentina (2016)

Right now I'm working on my first novel, and I’ve set my one and only New Year’s resolution to get my poetry collection published by the end of 2024. But as with all artists, self-discipline is notoriously difficult to foster, let alone maintain. Words like “consistency”, “routine” and “schedule” don’t exactly fit into the same sentence as “creativity”. But they need to. Because self-discipline is the key to cracking any code remotely related to success.

I read an article about “publishing every day” as a foolproof method to cultivate self-discipline. This does not mean getting one book a day on the shelves of every Waterstones in the country; publishing daily can be as simple as writing a blog post every day or sending a poem or short story to a friend.

Bahia Palace (Marrakech)
Museu do Fado (Lisboa)

I have got a bunch of ideas on things to write about: from my journey to calling myself an artist, Portuguese fado, Islamic architecture, pantheism, life philosophies and politics- to the lovely gentleman whose dumping me led to six years of depression, but also art, art, great art! Every writer needs their muse, no? Massive disclaimer from here on out: None of the lovely gentlemen I write about are half as handsome, out-of-the-world godly or [insert opposite of asshole] as I make them seem. But nobody wants to read about boring, cheating, mid personifications of rubbish. And in this way, magical realism is very important!

La Casa De Papel: La Experiencia (London)

Other things I love! My FANDOMS (La Casa de Papel- I did a literal cosplay pilgrimage in 40°C Madrid heat and way too many other fan activities to put them lightly; La Reina del Sur- the original Spanish version from 2011, por favor), travelling, learning languages (five and counting now), fake designer cigarette cases and kolas (yes I know how to spell the name of that animal, it is spelt exactly: K-O-L-A and if you are putting an A between the O and the L then you are spelling it wrong). I am still waiting for the day when I can add “life” to this list, pero bueno…

Fake LV definitely not even meant for cigarettes

Shamelessly promoting my KOLA BRAIN Youtube video, aka the most interesting science lesson you will receive in your life about how stupid you never knew kolas were:

WELCOME, HELLO AND GOODBYE.
